About this game
Neon Chomp is a fast maze game set in a glowing, neon-lit grid. You control a boxy little chomper, and your job is to gobble every pellet in the maze while patrol drones hunt you through the corridors. Each drone behaves differently: one chases you directly, one wanders until you get close, one sweeps the corners of the maze, and from level three a fourth follows the trail you leave behind. The four bright energy cells in the corners are your weapon. Grab one and every drone is stunned for a few seconds, so you can turn the tables and zap them for points that climb with each drone in a row. Bonus gems appear twice per level, and clearing a maze earns a level bonus and a new color theme. Pellets are worth 10 points and energy cells 50. You have three lives and earn an extra one at 5,000 points. The wrap-around tunnel in the middle of the maze gives you a quick escape route.
Controls
- Keyboard: use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D. Press a direction early and the chomper turns as soon as the way is clear.
- Phone or tablet: use the on-screen D-pad under the maze.
- The Sound button under the D-pad switches the built-in sound effects on or off. Your choice is remembered.
- Press PLAY to start. The level number, lives and score are shown above the maze.
Tips and strategy
- Clear the outer lanes first and work inward. That keeps your escape routes open for as long as possible.
- Save energy cells for when the drones are close. Zapping several in a row pays 150, 300, 450 and 600 points.
- Learn each drone. The diamond stumbles now and then, the arrowhead ignores you unless you are close, the hexagon sweeps the corners, and the spiked mine follows your old path, so change direction to shake it off.
- Use the tunnel on the middle row to switch sides fast, but remember the drones can use it too, so do not get cornered there.
- Watch the drone den in the center. Drones leave through the top, so be careful near the corridor just above it early in each level.
- Grab bonus gems when the route is clear. They disappear after about eight seconds, and later levels make them worth more.
