Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information BoredKid.com ("we", "us", "the site") collects when you visit boredkid.com, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to a minimum. Accounts are optional: you can play every game without one and without giving us any personal information.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide. If you make a leaderboard and choose to submit a score, you enter a display name. We store that name, your score, the game, and the date and time. Leaderboard names and scores are shown publicly. Please do not use your real name, email address, or any other personal information as your display name. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use it only to respond.

Accounts (optional). If you make a BoredKid.com account, we store: the username you choose (shown to other players, for example in Rabies Pets), your first name (shown only to you, on your My Account page), your picture password and recovery code (stored only in scrambled, one-way "hashed" form, so nobody can read them back), and your game activity: how many times you played each game, your best scores, and your Rabies Pets progress (Rabid Cash, items, and stats such as rounds played). We do not ask for an email address, a last name, a birthday, a photo, or any contact information. Usernames are checked so they can't contain rude words or ways to contact someone.

Chat in Rabies Pets. Rabies Pets has a chat that can be turned off in its Settings. Typed messages are filtered before anyone sees them: rude words and anything that looks like contact details (phone numbers, addresses, emails, links, social media names) are covered up. To keep the game safe, we keep a private record of chat messages (the time, the player's name, what was typed, and what other players saw) for 90 days. Only the site's owner can see it, and it is not shared with anyone else.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our web servers may log technical information when you load a page, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, pages visited, and the time of the request. We use this to keep the site running, prevent abuse and cheating, and understand which games people enjoy.

Information stored in your browser. Some games may use your browser's local storage to remember settings or your best score on your own device. This stays on your device, and you can clear it in your browser settings at any time.

The login cookie. If you log in, your browser keeps a cookie named bk_sess that keeps you logged in on boredkid.com and in our games for up to 180 days. It is needed for accounts to work, is only read by BoredKid.com, and is not used for advertising. Logging out removes it.

2. How we use information

• To run the games and display leaderboards.
• To detect and prevent cheating, spam, and abuse.
• To measure traffic and improve the site.
• To respond to messages you send us.
• To show advertising that helps pay for the site (see below).

3. Advertising and cookies

To keep the games free, we may show ads served by third parties, including Google AdSense. These companies may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to serve ads, measure their performance, and, where permitted, show ads based on your visits to this and other websites.

• Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Where required by law, we ask for your consent before ads and cookies that use personal data are used, through a consent message shown on your first visit. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link on the site, where available, or by clearing your browser's cookies so the message appears again.

We do not control third-party cookies, and their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

4. Children's privacy

BoredKid.com is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because leaderboard names are public, we ask everyone, and especially younger players, not to enter personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at contact@boredkid.com and we will delete it.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only: (a) publicly, in the case of leaderboard names and scores; (b) with service providers that host or help operate the site; (c) with advertising partners as described in section 3; and (d) when required by law or to protect the site, our users, or others from abuse.

6. Data retention

Accounts are kept until you delete them (My Account → Delete my account, which removes everything stored in the account right away). Rabies Pets chat records are deleted after 90 days. Leaderboard entries are kept for as long as the leaderboard exists, unless removed earlier. Server logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted or anonymized. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example, in the EEA, UK, or California), you may have the right to ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent you have given. To make a request, email contact@boredkid.com with "Privacy" in the subject line. You can see everything stored in your account on your My Account page, and delete the account there at any time. To have a leaderboard entry removed, tell us the game, the name, and the score. We may need to verify your request before acting on it.

California residents may also opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising by using the ad controls described in section 3 or by contacting us.

8. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, but no method of transmission or storage on the internet is completely secure.

9. Links to other sites

The site may link to or display content from other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
